The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) published its consumer price figures for October 2026 on 3 November. Annual inflation reached 5.9%, up from 5.6% in September, so everyday costs in Georgia are rising a little faster than a month ago.

What pushed prices up

Transport had the biggest effect: its prices were 21.9% higher than a year earlier, adding 2.54 percentage points to the annual rate. Running a private vehicle cost 30.3% more and transport services 14.5% more.

Food and non-alcoholic drinks rose 3.1%, adding 1.07 points. Within food the picture is mixed:

  • fish up 20.2% and meat up 7.6%,
  • bread and cereals up 4.0% and vegetables up 4.1%,
  • fruit down 4.5% and sugar and sweets down 3.3%.

Health care cost 8.4% more, with outpatient services up 11.7%.

Rents and utilities

For anyone who rents, the housing group matters most. It rose 10.1% in a year. Actual rents for housing went up 12.8%, repairs and maintenance 11.9%, and electricity, gas and other fuels 10.6%.

Education pulled the average down

Education was the only group that lowered inflation: its prices fell 12.0%, taking 0.53 points off the annual rate, mainly because the higher education index dropped 32.9%. This is an average for households in Georgia and says nothing about the fee of any particular programme, so check the actual tuition of the programme you are interested in.

What it means for students

A budget planned a year ago may now be too tight, especially for rent, transport and utilities. Building a small reserve into your monthly plan is a sensible step before you arrive.
