Georgia: admission, visa and arrival

Am I too old to apply to a Georgian university?

Age is not a barrier at the partner universities we work with in Georgia – none of them sets an upper limit. Two details to know: SEU only accepts applicants aged 18 or over, and the University of Georgia wants applicants older than 30 to speak with its staff before applying.

I finished 10 grades. Is that enough to apply?

Unfortunately not. Bachelor’s and one-cycle programs at every university we list require a completed secondary school diploma.

My diploma is several years old. Can I still use it?

Yes. The year you graduated does not matter: a diploma from 2010, 2012 or 2015 works, provided it is valid and recognized.

What do I need to send for my application?

In most cases your passport, your school certificate and transcript (a Bachelor’s diploma if you apply for a Master’s), a 3×4 photo and, if you have one, an English certificate. A few universities also want a CV, a motivation letter or a short video.

Do international students sit Georgia’s national exams?

No. Instead of the Unified National Exams, international applicants go through document recognition at NCEQE, followed by a decision of the Ministry of Education.

How quickly will I hear back?

Once the university has passed your documents to NCEQE, the Ministry of Education’s decision usually comes within about 5 days to 1 month.

What English level do Georgian universities expect?

B2 at most universities – for example IELTS 5.5–6.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of roughly 61–78. Georgian Technical University asks for B1. No certificate? Nearly every university can check your English with its own test or an interview.

Will my documents have to be translated?

In most cases, yes. Universities usually want your passport, diploma and transcript in Georgian with a notary’s certification, and our local team takes care of both in Georgia.

Is the teaching fully in English?

It is. Every program we list for Georgia is taught entirely in English.

When can I start?

Most universities take new students twice a year, in Fall and in Spring. European University is the exception, with one intake in the Autumn semester.

What visa does a student need for Georgia?

The D3 immigration visa for study. Citizens of visa-exempt countries, such as the EU, the USA, the UAE, Israel and Turkey, may stay visa-free for up to one year. Once in Georgia, you apply for a residence permit before your legal stay runs out.

Do I get my tuition back if the visa is refused?

Yes. Every partner university refunds the tuition you have paid once you present official proof of the refusal, and most return the full amount.

Is there help once I am in Georgia?

Yes. Our team meets you at the airport, helps you find accommodation, handles the residence permit and university registration with you, and answers everyday questions on WhatsApp.

What will my studies cost per year?

For most programs we list in Georgia, annual tuition falls between 3,000 and 10,000 USD. A Medical Doctor (MD) degree is 4,500–6,500 USD a year, depending on where you study, and Georgian Technical University sets its fees in Georgian lari. Every program’s own fee is shown in our program search.
