Georgia's D1 visa: work visa
Georgia's D1 explained for international workers and founders: the Right to Labour Activity, the contract and registry papers, and how to file the visa and residence permit.
Is this visa right for you?
Taking a job or starting a company in Georgia? The D1 is issued to foreigners who have obtained the Right to Labour Activity, and to entrepreneurs under Georgian company law. From 1 March 2026 a residence permit alone no longer gives the right to work.
What the embassy asks for
- Passport and a photo
- Accommodation letter and a flight reservation
- Notarised employment contract or a public registry extract
- Tax or income documents
- Public registry certificate if the employer is registered in Georgia
- CV and proof of qualifications
- The unique code of your work permit
- Travel insurance and a 6-month bank reference
- The fee receipt and two signed application forms
Embassies can ask for more; documents usually need a translation. We give you the exact list for your country.

Worth knowing before you apply
Since 1 March 2026 most foreign nationals need the Right to Labour Activity before employment, self-employment or business activity in Georgia.
Working only for a non-resident employer outside Georgia falls under the C5 rules instead.
