Before you apply to UG: common questions

Is UG expensive compared with other universities in Georgia?

Not for most degrees. Bachelor’s programs cost $4,000–$4,500 a year and every Master’s costs $4,000, which is below or at the bottom of the Georgian range. Medicine ($6,500) and Dentistry ($6,000) are at the top of the range.

Do I need IELTS to apply?

Usually not. UG tests your English itself with an online test. You only need IELTS if the university asks you for it.

How long does it take from application to visa?

Recognition of your documents by the Ministry of Education takes 3–4 weeks, and the visa can take up to 4 more weeks. Plan for about two months.

Do I have to pay before I get my visa?

Yes, part of the tuition. The invitation and visa-support letters are free, but UG issues them only after you pay part of the first-year tuition. The rest of the first year is paid when you arrive; from the second year you can pay in installments.

Will I get my money back if the visa is refused?

Yes, 100% with no deduction. You need the official refusal (suspension order) and a refund request.

Is health insurance required?

Yes. You must submit health insurance within one month of signing your contract and renew it every year. UG works with the insurer ARDI.

Can UG help with housing?

University housing is still being built. UG offers temporary accommodation support and the accommodation letter you need for the visa, and our Local Student Support team can help you find a flat.
