Your route to a Georgian university, step by step
Admission in six steps
Find your program
Choose a university and an English-taught program, comparing tuition, length and start dates in our program list.
Share your documents
In most cases your passport, school certificate and transcript (or Bachelor’s diploma for a Master’s), a 3×4 photo and any English certificate you hold. Some universities also request a CV, a motivation letter or a video.
Georgian translation and notary
Most universities want your documents in Georgian with a notary’s certification. Our team arranges both locally.
Interview and English level
A short online interview, plus the university’s own English test if you have no certificate (B2 is the usual level: IELTS 5.5–6.0 or the TOEFL equivalent).
NCEQE recognition and Ministry approval
Your university sends the documents to NCEQE and the Ministry of Education takes the final decision, usually within about 5 days to 1 month (3–4 weeks at the University of Georgia).
Tuition and visa letters
Once approved, you pay the tuition (all of it or the first part, depending on the university) and receive your enrollment confirmation and the invitation letter for the visa.
From picking a program to settling in Tbilisi. International students join Georgian universities without national exams: the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) recognizes your documents and the Ministry of Education approves your admission.
Visa first, residence permit after arrival
The D3 visa for students
If you need a visa, the one for studying in Georgia is the D3 immigration visa. Citizens of visa-exempt countries (such as the EU, the USA, the UAE, Israel and Turkey) may enter without a visa for up to one year.
The visa file usually holds:
- The completed application form and fee receipt
- Your passport and a photo
- Proof that you can cover your costs
- Proof of where you will live
- Travel insurance for your stay
- The university’s invitation and acceptance letters
Your residence permit
File your residence permit application before your legal stay ends. The usual documents are your passport, a photo, your visa documents, proof of finances and your university papers.
Expect visa processing to take up to about 4 weeks. Should the visa be refused, every partner university refunds the tuition you paid on official proof of the refusal.
