What applicants from Japan ask us

Do Georgian universities accept applicants from Japan?

They do. What decides is your education, not your passport: a complete secondary school diploma opens Bachelor’s and one-cycle programs, and a Bachelor’s degree opens Master’s programs. The university checks your file, NCEQE recognizes your documents and the Ministry of Education gives the final approval.

How do I find out whether I need a visa as a citizen of Japan?

Enter your citizenship, passport type and planned length of stay in the official GeoConsul “Do I need a visa?” check. If a visa is required, students apply for the D3 study visa. Being allowed to enter without a visa does not on its own cover a long study stay.

Which degrees match my education?

With a school-leaving certificate you can choose Bachelor’s programs and the one-cycle degrees in Medicine and Dentistry. A Bachelor’s degree adds Master’s programs, and a Master’s degree adds doctoral (PhD) programs.

Which papers go into the admission file?

Your passport, finished education certificates with transcripts and a 3×4 photo. Most universities also ask for an English certificate or let you take their own English test, and want the documents translated into Georgian with a notary’s certification.

What goes into the D3 visa file?

The completed application form and fee receipt, your passport and photo, proof that you can cover your costs, proof of where you will live, travel insurance, and the invitation and acceptance letters from your university.

How much time should I plan for?

Recognition and the university’s approval usually take from about 5 days to a month, and the visa up to about 4 weeks more. Appointment dates can add time, so start early.

Who helps me once I land in Georgia?

Our Local Student Support team: university registration, settling into your accommodation and the residence permit application, which has to be filed before your legal stay ends.
